My expeience of running a wordpress site here was not good. Continued problems with speed and whenever a simple plugin was called from the page just timed out the page for about 5 minutes. I found support terrible they don't even read the emails properly. Oh and when i eventually gave up and tried to phone for support they couldn't acces there own system to look at my account - about sums it up really.

Good Price until something goes wrong. Then you realize you get what you pay for. I would only use them for their cheap bandwidth. Any complex scripts with heavy traffic is not a going to lead to trouble in the future. Custom service is bad which is why the prices are cheap. Stay away from their servers and only use their simple hosting plans! You have been warned!

We have several high-traffic sites hosted on a 1and1 Internet dedicated server (Titan Enterprise) here in the "states." The experience has been everything we hoped for. Since this is a root Linux server, we basically can put whatever we want on it, so long as it's legal and doesn't invite unsavory Internet attacks. So we do run Apple's Darwin Streaming Server for our two online radio shows, several WordPress sites, three vBulletin forums, a couple of shopping carts and so on and so forth.

What I like about 1and1 Internet is the fact that they offer an incredible range of services for a low fixed price. Unlike some of the other hosts out there (Godaddy being the most blatant offender) 1and1 Internet doesn't offer tons of extra-cost options. I realize that might present an image of less flexibility, but it also means that most people can just order up the package they want and get exactly what they need without having to check off costly options.

Since we traded up in services for several months in testing them out, we did have to go through a process of canceling old services, getting billing credits and so on and so forth. In each case, billing was totally efficient in sorting things out and making sure that we didn't pay a dime more than we owed (or a pence for that matter).

I realize some people complain about them for one reason or another. I checked out a few, and found the stories bogus. As for the rest: Well 1and1 Internet is a huge company. They can't please everybody, and I'm sure, as with all large companies, they make mistakes. But I like the people there, and the service they provide me is nothing short of excellent.

Peace,
Gene Steinberg
